MEN'S HAORI

The following is a selection of our Men's Haori.   These were worn as a jacket.  The outside is usually a heavy black silk with mon (family crests).  The outside is gorgeous but the inside is awesome.  The reason is that most of these were owned by members of the merchant class.  As they began accumulating the wealth, the members of the samurai class became jealous.  The samurai were becoming significantly poorer in comparison to the members of the merchant class.  So the members of the merchant class had to hide their wealth on the inside of their clothes, homes and furniture.

Since the inside lining is so spectacular, it has become a western custom to wear these haroi inside out allowing others to admire the gorgeous hand painted or brocaded designs.  Of course, being reversible gives the owner the opportunity to wear this garment on either the black silk side or the decorated side.  The following are offered from our collection.  We have chosen to display the inside pictures as the outsides are usually black silk with small mon in three places (center back and each sleeve) The standard size is a generous medium.

We have removed all of these from our website and are only selling them at shows or you can email at saber@olympus.net  us for more information.
